Angels, I Plead
Angels, what is good love and what is the breach of it?
The youth is finished since the grievous spirit has left
And it is all but said and done. Ah, the candles are lit,
But no mourning... only the lingering ash of a love inept.
Angels, hasten not to allow me the suffering and extend
To me the grace to continue on in the dying of what has been
Too painful and wrenching to conceive; I cannot contend
With suffering, the end of this day. I beg you to let me begin.
Angels, restore unto me faith in what love should be
And kill the bitter root which lends itself unto the chord
At the vulnerable heart strings. Teach me love's key.
I don't want to die an old soul lost in the vast seas of forlorn.
Angels, I plead, Make this heart understand why
And help it to expect a better outcome if there is a next time.
Forgive me in my faithlessness and be with me as I try
Again to strengthen my resolve to find true love sublime.
